Wood rot is another problem that affects both the inside and the exterior of your window. However when the rot has spread to your mullions or muntins (the parts of the window frame that support the glass panes) they might need to be rebuilt. This could be more expensive than buying a new set.

Paint that has chipped or peeled

Window sills and frames are often in close proximity to the elements, which means they can take a lot damage from precipitation and sunlight. Paint peeling around windows is mostly caused by moisture, and is particularly so if exposed wood is involved. Water seeps through the wood, and when it evaporates, the pressure beneath the film of paint causes the paint to peel. Moisture may come from condensation inside, or snow and rain outside. Whatever  upvc window repair  to clean and sand the surface and then repaint as soon as the paint starts to chip. Some skilled painters add a water-resistant preservative or thinned boiled linseed oil to the wood prior to painting to prevent moisture penetration and help the new paint hold better.

When paint starts to chip off, it's time to repair your window. Before applying a new coat, lay a drop cloth or tarp over the area you're working on to catch any scattered drops of paint. Using a utility knife, carefully remove any loose paint. Be careful not to cut the wood underneath or cut through the sheathing. Clean the area thoroughly and allow it to dry completely.

When the area is dry then sand it once more using a fine-grit sanding block. This will prepare the surface to receive primer and create a surface that is ready to receive paint. Use the proper safety equipment when using paint based on lead. Clean the sanded area and tape off any other surfaces, such as baseboards, to shield them from paint.

Then paint and prime according to the directions on the specific paint tin you're using. Follow the temperature and curing instructions on the can of paint, as they will vary according to the type of paint you're using. Make sure you paint the exterior of the surface with an exterior-grade paint, and the interior with an interior-grade.

Before putting on the plastic and putting on your gloves and safety glasses and then remove the broken piece of glass from its frame. You'll need to use a utility knife, scraper, or chisel to remove any glazing points that bind the pane in the frame. The glass can be put back in place using epoxy. This option is the most time-consuming, but will give your glass a more robust appearance. If you're using epoxy, opt for the double-cylinder model that distributes the resin and hardener in equal proportion.
